Emily Rhyne is an Emmy award-winning cinematographer, editor and producer at The New York Times. Before joining the Times, she worked as a video producer at The New Yorker and as an associate producer at Mashable. She interned at the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post, and studied journalism and political science at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is an ADC Young Gun.

Rhyne has reported from 14 countries for the Times. Her work covers a wide-variety of subject matter including political unrest, public health, gun violence, and sports. Her aim as a journalist is to bring a universal humanity to the forefront of each story she tells.

Rhyne’s work has been recognized both domestically and internationally. In 2022 and 2019, Pictures of the Year International named Rhyne the Documentary Storyteller of the Year. In 2020, she won her first News and Documentary Emmy for a short documentary about Bob Ross’ archive of paintings. Her other works have been nominated six times. Her work covering COVID-19 in New York City was awarded an Edward R. Murrow award and Front Page Award in 2020.

Rhyne dislikes writing in the third person and would rather just grab a coffee if you’re interested in collaborating. She also loves teaching. Don’t be shy.
